Ten To Follow Update (29.11.2017)

Posted 5 years ago

The Jumps season is back with a bang and the first two weekends have been completed in the 2017/18 Jumps Ten to Follow Competition. We started the competition with great action from The November Meeting at Cheltenham and we have just been treated to a great weekend of racing at Haydock Park for the Betfair Chase, the first Grade 1 race in Great Britain of the season.

The November Meeting started with the sad news that Alan Potts had passed away during the week and Finian's Oscar made it a two from two over fences and came home to a rapturous applause in the Class 2 Novice Chase.

The second day of the meeting began with a brilliant performance from Apple's Shakira who tore apart a decent looking field. Splash of Ginge sprung a surprise in the BetVictor Gold Cup and hung on gamely from the strong finishing Starchitect. Other winners on the day included Perfect Candidate, Thomas Campbell and Posh Trish.

The Sunday delivered another day of great racing which saw North Hill Harvey, increase his Cheltenham credentials with an 18 length win in the Arkle Trial. Fox Norton then brought up the second win for the Potts and Tizzard combination with a commanding win in the Shloer Chase. Wins from Elgin, Slate House and Crooks Peak wrapped up the meeting.

A week later, all eyes were on Haydock Park for the Betfair Chase. Bristol De Mai was well touted beforehand on his favoured course and distance, and he duly obliged. After setting what looked a decent early gallop, he quickly extended away up the home straight and ran out a 57 length winner. This was by far the best staying performance of the year.

Be sure to check back next Wednesday for the scores.
