Posted 5 years ago

Mark Johnston trained his 4,000th British Flat winner on Monday 23 October as Dominating scored at Pontefract and the Racegoers Club are delighted to have played a part in this achievement providing him with nine winners.

He is only the third trainer to have sent out 4,000 winners in Britain, with his overall tally boosted by five jumps victories.

Johnston stands number three in the all-time list of British winning trainers behind Richard Hannon snr, who retired with a tally of 4,193 (4,145 on the Flat), and Martin Pipe, who was ten adrift on 4,183.

All three horses that the Racegoers Club have had with Mark over the years made it to the winners enclosure including our winning most horse - Epic - who recorded seven victories from 31 runs between 2009 and 2011.

Three of his wins came at Hamilton Park with further successes at Beverley, Doncaster, Epsom and Wolverhampton. He hit peak form during the summer of 2010 when he racked up three straight wins between 11 August and 8 September, twice at Hamilton and then completing the hat trick Epsom to take him to an official rating high of 86.

One of the other winners with Mark Johnston was Tribal Path who won at Lingfield on the All-Weather in January 2013 and has since gone on to win six times in Ireland trained by Damian Joseph-Engliash.

Finally there was Broxbourne who won on debut at Beverley in a Maiden Auction Stakes under Silvestre De Sousa in 2011 before going onto having a successful hurdling career with Nicky Henderson, finishing seventh at the Cheltenham Festival in 2016 and winning at Aintree in November 2015.
