We are delighted that we are continuing our association with multiple Group One winning trainer Clive Cox, who is based in Lambourn. Clive has been affiliated with the Racegoers Club for a couple of years and provided us with a winner last year in Glacier Point.
We have a number of shares available in a two-year-old Lethal Force colt out of Malilla, Clive knows the family well having trained both Lethal Force and Malilla. Lethal Force had an illustrious career, winning the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2013 and the Group One July Cup a month later at Newmarket.
Clive Cox is a proven top-level trainer and renowned for his expertise with sprinters especially. At the moment he has Cartier Champion Sprinter Harry Angel in the yard as well as last year’s Queen Mary winner Heartache. Other superstars he has trained down the years include Lethal Force himself, Gilt Edge Girl, Profitable, My Dream Boat, New Seeker and Reckless Abandon.
Before training he was a jump jockey, riding 100 winners, having grown up on a farm in Somerset where his father taught him the basics of horse conformation.
Clive Cox said, “I’m delighted to be training for the Racegoers Club again and think we’ve found a really exciting horse to hopefully bring us some success. We had a lot of fun last year with Glacier Point and with any luck we can repeat that.
“I trained both Lethal Force and Malilla of course and they both provided me with some special moments especially when they both won on the same card at Newbury in 2012 so fingers crossed we can create some more with their first colt. It’s early days with him of course but he’s working with all our other two-year-olds so far and moves well. He’s got a good step and nice long neck as Lethal Force did – hopefully he can use it to get his head in front for us!”
This Group will run from March 1 and early subscribers will have the opportunity to name and own a share in the colt for only £295.
Sire - Lethal Force
Standing at Cheveley Park Stud, Lethal Force made a solid start to his stallion career as his first runners hit the track in 2017. He has produced 24 winners from 57 runners and 21 winners from 55 two-year-old runners last year. In his racing career with Clive he was fourth in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, and a seven furlong Group Two winner at three before excelling at four when winning two six furlong Group Ones.
Dam - Malilla
A winner of a six furlong maiden at Newbury in August 2012, Malilla had the future Oaks winner Talent behind her that day. She might not have gone on to achieve quite as much in her career but she did have a peak rating of 92 and ran twice at Listed level. This is her second foal and her first colt.
Every trainer strives to make his mark, training ever more and better winners for owners. It takes teamwork, dedication and support - Clive Cox has all three, and since 1999 he has established himself as one of England's leading racehorse trainers. Typically producing shrewdly bought horses to win big races, Clive is equally at home training precocious Group 1 winning two year olds as he is at planning and landing big handicap wins.
Since moving to Beechdown in 2000, Clive has built a reputation for his success in big handicaps with his own well-bought purchases and since Beacon Lodge gave him his first Group race winner, in 2007, his standing as a trainer has been enhanced with further black-type success.
