Paul Smith to Leave the Racegoers Club
Read Paul Smith's farewell address to the Racegoers club
I am sad to announce that at the end of August I will be leaving The Racegoers Club after 14 years; I will start training as an English teacher, which is something that I have always wanted to do. It has been great fun from the start. The Club is largely about providing memorable racing experiences and I have been lucky to enjoy so many of them with you along the way, meeting my racing heroes, both human and equine, in the process. The highlight has been managing the syndicates; there have been plenty of ups and downs but I’ll remember some special days out such as Diamond Tycoon’s Guineas and cheering on Clouds Rest at this year’s Royal Ascot. There have been some not so good horses too (naming no names) but with three individual winners this year already I feel like I am leaving on a high!
However, by far the best bit about the job has been meeting all the members – thanks to all of you for your support, your company and your friendship over the past 14 years. Racing will remain a big part of my life and I’ll be attending the odd club visit and event, so I’ll bump into plenty of you in the future.
This is a great club – I will always support it and I hope that you will too.
Bye for now,
