Encouraging return for Chilly Miss

Posted 3 years ago

Racegoers Club legend Chilly Miss ran a really encouraging race yesterday at Southwell to finish fourth on her return to racecourse action after 405 days off.

She showed all of her old enthusiasm and excitement in the parade ring before the race and looked delighted to be back on a racecourse. Everybody was equally delighted to see her back and it was great to have a 30-strong contingent there to support her.

Settled in fifth position and jumping well she had closed the gap up to the leaders down the back straight and when Brian Hughes asked her for a little bit more she responded almost immediately, jumping the second last in contention.

Unfortunately her time off the track then caught up with her as she tired before the last and couldn't go with the leaders, finishing fourth and beaten less than six lengths.

Brian Hughes said afterwards, "She was a bit ring rusty early on but once she settled she ran really well. She was a bit out paced round the bend but responded well and travelled up nicely turning for home. I thought I was in with a chance but she just flattened out as she's entitled to after so long off.

"She jumped well in the main which is great. It's a good starting point and I'd say she wants a stiff two miles or a bit further on a flat track moving forward."

Assistant trainer Ruth Jefferson was also pleased with the run and echoed Brian's thoughts about the trip, also hinting at a possible run on the Flat in the future.

All in all it was a really encouraging return and great to see her come back with the same energy and enthusiasm as before. She will be an exciting horse to follow for us over the next year.

There are still a limited number of shares available in the Malcolm Jefferson group which includes exciting four-year-old Sammamish as well as Chilly Miss running until 30 June 2018. Find out more here or give us a call on 01344 625 912.
