Chilly Miss ran a cracking race this evening at Southwell to finish third in the 2m4f Handicap to close the card.

She looked really well before the race and showed all of her usual exuberance in the parade ring and as she headed out to the track. Sent off an 11/2 chance she settled in mid division of the ten runner field and tracked the leaders from the start, travelling really well throughout the race as Jamie Hamilton kept her on the outside of the field where the ground was slightly better and less churned up.

Her jumping was great throughout and she looked to have a really good chance of winning as she turned for home in second, covering the move of the well backed favourite Zamoyski.

Another good jump at the second last put her right in contention and she jumped the last pretty much level with Zamoyski with the bottom weight Mount Vesuvius on her outside.

Sadly Zamoyski jumped it much slicker as Chilly Miss gave it a bit too much air and lost valuable momentum at the crucial time. Course and distance winner Zamoyski clearly looked a horse ahead of the handicapper as he scooted clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths and while it was a shame Chilly Miss was run out of second by Mount Vesuvius, she was giving him more than a stone in weight which showed as she tired towards the end. Still she ran a great race and showed clear improvement from her last run.

Jockey Jamie Hamilton said: "She jumped and travelled really well throughout and jumping the last I thought I was going to win but she just didn't see it out as well as the front two.

"I didn't want to commit her too early going for home as it's a long run in and she enjoyed the better ground on the outside. She's run really well and is a super mare to have plenty of fun with going forwards."
